Objectives
The three main goals of the Skills Strategy are:
- setting standards for all core and professional skills, linking them to careers and developing a suite of up-to-date qualifications to support them
- joint commissioning to meet common skills needs (including investing in a major expansion of apprenticeships)
- starting an ambitious programme of engagement with the higher and further education sectors, to give part of our future workforce a headstart in the skills our employers need.
Funding
Like other Sector Skills Councils, Government Skills is predominantly funded by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills. We also receive funding from our parent department – the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills.
