The Marketing Society Awards for Excellence – celebrating marketing excellence in the UK – were held on Monday, 9 June 2008. The Engage programme reached the finals in the Marketing Capabilities category – up against some of the top brands in the country.
The Government Communication Network’s Engage programme, launched in 2005, has transformed the way government communicators work with policy and delivery officials.
Before the event, David Rose, Engage Programme Manager, said:
‘I am delighted that Engage is up for this prestigious award. The team, Gina Banns of Oxford Strategic Marketing and of course our activists in departments have been magnificent in promoting best practice strategic communication skills across government.’
‘We hope to keep up and extend the good work, through further engagement with press officers and internal communications specialists, as well as building a greater understanding of strategic communications skills among the policy-making community.’
Two other government departments were also involved. The Department for Children, Schools and Families won the Digital Channels category and was commended for Leading Edge Thinking. The Department for Communities and Local Government was commended for Marketing Achievement.
Engage is a framework to help government communicators understand and apply a range of advanced strategic communication techniques and tools. It does this by developing insights into audiences and seeking more effective ways of shifting attitudes and changing behaviours.
