Government Skills, the Sector Skills Council for Central Government is currently leading a project to develop National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Commissioning in the Public Sector.
Between October 2009 and January 2010, research was conducted across the UK including a series of workshops and meetings with commissioning practitioners. The aim was to explore and define the various commissioning functions in the public sector.
As a result, many existing generic NOS (for example: those from Management and Leadership) with relevance to commissioning have been identified where this is the case, it is intended that these will be included. In addition, commissioning NOS were identified from specific sectors (such as the social care sector) and these are also being reviewed to consider their wider application. Finally, there remain a number of new commissioning NOS to be developed for the public sector.
It is these NOS that Government Skills is consulting on through the online survey.
Online consultation
In order to ensure that the draft NOS are fit for purpose, it is important that Government Skills receives feedback from a wide range of commissioning practitioners in the public sector.
Government Skills is asking its public sector partners to encourage their sectors to give them views on the NOS by completing the online survey.

This is an important opportunity to all individuals who have or currently work in a commissioning environment to help shape the final suite of NOS for Commissioning in the Public Sector, which are designed to be standards which can be used as benchmarks for performance, and accessed by those who are involved with commissioning in the Public Sector.
The closing date for responses is now closed.
