How will it happen?

To achieve its aims, the strategy outlines a number of specific recommendations for action, which build and develop the work of the PSG programme begun in 2005. These actions depend on the extension of the PSG competency framework below Grade 7, which will begin to happen from April 2008.

The key recommendations are to:

• set standards on skills for all, and link them to careers
• strengthen professions to drive the skills agenda
• commission jointly to meet common skills needs
• start an ambitious programme of engagement with the higher and further education sectors.
